Spitting Pig Hertfordshire not only provide hog roasts, but also beef, turkey, chickens and my favourite which is lamb roast. Our lamb as well as all our other meat is purchased from a local butchers. They are renowned for providing the finest quality meats in the area and in particular the lamb is about as good as it gets. Sam and Ruben (the butchers) rear their own lamb at their mother’s farm and depending on the season we use these delicious lambs for our lamb roasts.
The lamb roast is a tasty alternative to the hog roast and is ideal if you are a non pork eater or your numbers are around forty or fifty. Our waitresses were also serving canapés and champagne to the guests as they arrived and we also tended to the bar during the evening. The evening was rounded off by a performance by Dave from the legendry group Chas & Dave who was the next door neighbour of the hosts.

Heading slightly further west is the hamlet of Aldbury, which is nestled alongside the Ashridge Estate, which is National Trust land and of exceptional beauty. Deer roam the open country side and the monument and centre can be visited while enjoying a picnic in the countryside. Whilst in Aldbury, catering for a wedding, we enjoyed a couple of hours of free time in the afternoon at the village fete which was set in the centre of the village by the pond. The Wedding was in the late afternoon and newly married Mrs Lemsford looked gorgeous in her white bridal gown. Our waitresses greeted the guests as they arrived with a glass of champagne and served canapés as the bride and groom were having some photographs taken. We then served the starter course which was either soup, Parma ham on a new potato salad or salmon.
The hog roast wedding feast was a hog and lamb roast with salads and roasted new potatoes which were cooked with rosemary and garlic. The dessert of cup cakes was supplied by our good friend Anita Pirton who lives in Hertingfordbury. The night was finished off with a live band and two of our waiting staff stayed on after we had left to help run the bar.
