A 90th birthday celebration is the ultimate milestone birthday, it’s not just a get together, it’s a celebration of an entire lifetime, with generations gathered in one place to mark the occasion properly and value the guest of honour. On 21st February, we headed to The Marford Memorial Hall to do exactly that, serving up a Southern Slow Roast Menu for 30 guests at 2:30pm and long before the birthday guest and their friends and family arrived, we were hard at work preparing a delicious feast
For an event like this, the food needs to feel generous and comforting. That’s why our Southern Slow Roast menu worked so well. Guests enjoyed a choice of three meats: BBQ pulled pork, Cajun chicken and minted lamb. The pulled pork is slow-cooked until tender and easy to pile into a roll. The Cajun chicken was full of flavour but not overly spicy, so all guests could enjoy it without worrying about too much heat. The minted lamb added something a little different, a classic pairing that always goes down well at family celebrations. Alongside the meats, there were three sides: seasonal vegetables, a fresh green leaf salad and roasted baby new potatoes. These keep the menu balanced and suitable for all ages, from grandchildren to great grandchildren. We also added coleslaw for that extra crunch and creaminess that worked perfectly with the 
pulled pork.
We always consider all dietary requirements so for our vegan and veggie guests, we planned grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers, with six portions prepared, no one felt like an afterthought. Everything was served with a selection of bread rolls and wraps, giving guests the choice to build their plate just how they like it. We also used bamboo crockery, which keeps things practical and tidy so guests could enjoy conversations as well as their plates of food.
At Hog Roast Wheathampstead, events like this are about more than just serving food. It’s about making sure the day runs smoothly so the family can focus on celebrating. We arrived in time to set up, had everything ready for the 2:30pm serving, and took care of the clear down afterwards.
A 90th birthday deserves proper food and a relaxed atmosphere. That’s exactly what we achieved at Hog Roast Wheathampstead, with hearty portions, friendly service and one less thing for the family to worry about.
