Hog roast at St Johns ARC in Old Harlow

Spitting Pig Hertfordshire have been busy over the past few months hog roast catering for the surrounding area providing for various events during late winter and spring. As summer approaches our diary is getting choc a bloc with bookings for private parties and weddings looking for hog roast catering.

Over the weekend we were in Harlow providing wedding catering for Anne’s Daughter and her husband at St Johns ARC. The forecast is not spring like and although it was dry when we set off were expecting rain and lots of it…..

This is the first time Spitting Pig Hertfordshire have been to St Johns ARC, but we have provided lots of hog roast catering in the Harlow area. As we unloaded our equipment from the van a neighbour shouted over to us…. “Ooh, I recognise your van, you provided the hog roast catering for Katy’s wedding last year…oooh the crackling, it was just awesome!!”  It’s nice when people remember you and comment how good the food was.

The church and hall are absolutely beautiful and just the most delightful venue for a wedding. The hall has high vaulted ceilings and is light and airy. It is the perfect size for a hundred or so guests and has a nice area for us to set up the catering.

We have a new member of staff with us today…. George. He’s a nice young lad and a keen cook who is looking forward to hog roast catering for Hertfordshire and the Spitting Pig team.

We set up, scored and prepared the hog by pouring hot water over the skin and a fine layer of salt was rubbed on. George was keen to do this and I can only say it was more of a massage – I think he rather enjoyed it!! We started cooking the hog roast in Harlow and soon the church garden was engulfed in the aroma of the sweet smell of the roasting hog.

It was a good job we decided to serve inside…. The heavens opened at mid-afternoon and the wedding party turned up two hours early to escape the down pour. Photos were put on hold until the rain stopped and the guests made full use of the bar while they caught up with old friends.

Prosecco was enjoyed by all for toasting the bride and groom and we served the hog roast at 7:30pm which was accompanied by a colourful and delicious range of salads.

After the meal we cleared away quietly and discreetly. It was hammering down but managed to keep most equipment fairly dry by quickly running backwards and forwards to the van. We were treated to a supply of home-made cakes to nibble on before we headed home from yet another successful day hog roast catering in Harlow.
